7 Things You Should Never Put On Your Face

Photo: Huffington Post
There are a ton of DIY websites that show you how to improve the condition of your skin by applying some “at-home” stuff. Some are good for you, inexpensive and they actually work. Like avocado for example, that damn thing does wonders for the skin on your face. Others on the other hand can be more harmful than you think. These items below may be famous for a quick fix but they can actually help lead to some worrying skin issues:
Petroleum Jelly like Vaseline, can be helpful when  you have super dry skin or a cut but it’s not something you should be using daily as a moisturizer. Your skin may feel soft at first but in time, the thick emollient will seal dirt and debris that eventually will cause dryness.
Nail Polish has got acrylic molecules in them, which is only for your nails and if applied to your face, it will dry your skin out. If you are planning on painting your face for some costume party, you might want to opt for face paint instead.
Body Lotion seems like something that can be safe to apply on your face right? I mean we apply it on our body, so why not the face? Well, body lotions are usually a lot thicker than face moisturizers and contain some fragrance ingredients that can actually irritate your facial skin. For your face, you need something light and that is bombarded with ingredients to help nourish the skin on your face.
Hot Water is usually the more popular choice when in the shower and while it feels great, it also rids of the moisture from the outer layer of your facial skin. Why is that bad? It’s bad because it prevents moisture from escaping the skin, which in return will leave you with an imbalanced and dry skin. Always go for lukewarm instead of hot water.

Lemon has many great benefits but not for your face because it is very highly acidic. You know that sucking on a lemon can completely destroy the enamel on your teeth, right? If applied to your face and exposed to sun, it can cause irritation to the point of chemical burns.
Deodorant may be great for your underarms because it helps you from sweating through but don’t ever spray or swipe it over your facial skin, just because you don’t want your makeup to melt. Your skin needs to breathe and there’s a reason why sweat comes out, so find other ways to retain your makeup on your face for the entire day.
Mayonnaise is delicious with a sandwich and it’s also a fantastic ingredient to apply to your hair as it helps hydrate it. But to think that it might be good for your facial skin is totally wrong. It’s too acidic and too thick, which can lead to clogged pores.

7 Tips for Choosing the Right Jewellery for Your Skin Tone

Finding the right jewellery for your skin tone can be a tricky, especially if you don’t know where to start! Check out some helpful tips for choosing the right jewellery for your skin tone and hair color as well.
Tips for Choosing the Right Jewellery for Your Skin Tone

1. Find out your tone

Before you can find the right jewellery for your skin tone, you should know what actually your skin tone is! It’s not difficult to find out. If the veins on your wrist have a greenish tint, then you’re a warm tone, and if your veins have a bluish tint, then you’re a cool tone. Read on to figure out what this means.

2. Cool tones

Cool tones come from the ‘cool’ side of the color wheel, with silver, green, and blue. So jewellery with these colors will definitely look wonderful on you! You can also wear red and pinks, if you want to. Remember the cool tones will pop against your skin!

3. Warm tones

If you are a warm tone, then your colors are yellow, gold, pink, and red. Gold is the best choice for you! Even though you can wear diamonds too, as they’re white! You can also wear cool tones of jewellery, but you should know that warm tones will look better on you.

4. Dark skin

If you have a dark skin, then you have a large range! Bright jewellery looks fabulous on dark skin! Almost all colors, even white stands out on woman with dark skin. Try to stay away from dark shades of jewellery, since they can disappear. It all depends on how dark your skin is.

5. Fair skin

It’s better to choose a piece of jewellery in a light shade of your tone, if you have a fair skin. Dark or very bright colors can be really overwhelming, so consider soft colors. But don’t throw away all your dark jewellery, there will be a time and place where you need to be dramatic! Just save them for the right occasion!

6. Medium skin

If you have a medium skin, then you can enjoy the best of both worlds. You could get away with practically all the shades of jewellery, whether dark, light, neon, or bright. If you go for gold or silver, make sure you match your undertones to your skin’s tone if you want to stand out from the crowd!

7. Jewellery and hair colors

The color of your hair plays a great part in how jewellery looks on you overall, especially it concerns necklaces and earrings, which are close to your hair. If you have red hair you should choose aqua jewelry. Silver jewellery pops against dark hair. Don’t hesitate to experiment with different colors until you know which colors bring out your hair the best!

5 Steps to Speed Up Your Makeup Routine

Time-consuming makeup procedures can be simplified.
You can easily save your time and avoid wasting your precious minutes while dolling up in front of the mirror every single morning if you follow the steps below.

1. Concealer
If you are not completely satisfied with your complexion, use concealer. It will take you half a minute to apply it on your blemishes or under-eye circles. Foundation is also a good way to improve the situation. Some women prefer to apply foundation before they use concealer, others think that concealer should be applied on top. It’s up to you in what order you put these two products. Use a sponge or a brush to apply foundation, although applying with fingertips is more economical.

2. BB cream
This product is a must-have. It serves many purposes: nourishment, hydration, illumination, plus it perfectly evens out your skin. BB creams are of light texture, although a little bit less sheer than tinted moisturizers. Instead of sunscreen, moisturizer concealer, foundation you can use BB cream only. It can replace highlighter and anti-aging serum as well. Besides, it hides wrinkles, lines and pores, softens your skin, makes it brighter and fresh looking. No other beauty products are needed to make your skin look perfect – BB cream solves all problems!

3. Eye liner or shadow
If you are in a rush and have too little time to apply both, then pick one product only. Neutral shadow over you eyelid will give a natural look. Eye liner will make your eyes stand out. For a more refined look apply eye liner on your upper eyelid. This will define your lash line and you might not even need to apply mascara afterwards. If you still want some mascara, then apply only one coat so that you wouldn’t need to wait for it to dry. All in all, applying shadow, eyeliner and mascara usually takes up to 2 minutes.

4. Bronzer or blush
Use either bronzer or blush if you want glowing and sun-touched skin. These products are especially good for those whose natural skin tone is pale. A very small amount of bronzer or blush is more than enough to make a difference. Remember that your bronzer should not be more than two shades darker than your natural complexion.

5. Lip gloss or lipstick
The final step includes application of lip gloss or lipstick. Both products are great. The difference is that applying lipstick might take a bit more time – for a perfect look you will need lip liner, too. Lip gloss can be put without lining your lip with a pencil. Whether you decide to wear lip gloss or lipstick, give preference to neutral and natural shades.

Killing two birds with one stone
BB cream is not the only product that replaces many others. Find your favorite 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner. Instead of blush you can dab some lip tint on your cheekbones. Finally, there are plenty moisturizers with UV filters and nourishing components that take care of your skin 24/7.

4 Trendy New Nail Polishes for Fall 2014

Fall 2014 nail polishes
Fall colors are my absolute favorite. Dark green, brown, plum, and navy are some of my favorite nail polishes to wear year-round, but sometimes they’re just a bit too dark for summer. So when fall comes around, I’m all about painting my nails and toes those “moody” transitional colors. And of course, throwing on a huge, comfy sweater, but I digress.
Read on to see four lust-worthy nail colors for fall:

Essie Nail Color in The Perfect Cover Up

Essie The Perfect Cover Up nail polish
$8.50 at Nordstrom
This teal-gray shade from Essie’s Fall 2014 collection is stunning. It’s a great transitional color if you still want to rock a gorgeous nail polish and aren’t quite ready for the super-dark hues often associated with autumn. Plus, it’s an Essie polish, so you know the formulation is great.
This nail polish is almost a jewel-tone, and is just beautiful. If we’re being honest here, I kind of want a pair of pants in this color, and maybe even a quilted jacket. Anyone want to point me in the direction of those?

Nails Inc. NailKale in Bruton Mews

Nailkale Bruton Mews
$14 at Sephora
I know what you’re thinking: “NailKale? Is there kale in this?” The answer is yes. Not only can you have kale in your smoothies, you can now have it on your nails! According to the product description, kale is known for its high levels of Vitamins A, C, and K, which stimulates advanced keratin production and can make your nails longer and stronger.
The colors in this line of nail polishes are perfectly opaque, chip-resistant, and all-around amazing. I put this deep green shade, which is beautiful might I add, on my nails and only needed one coat. It’s awesome! Definitely give these colors a try – they are worth the price tag.

Essie Nail Color in Mink Muffs

Essie Mink Muffs nail polish
$8.50 at Beauty.com
This color reminds me of the perfect shade of ankle boots, as weird as that sounds. Essie’s fall colors are just so amazing! I think this color looks sleek and professional, so it would work for classes, as well as an internship or a job.
Brown shades like this one are universally flattering and make your nails look so sophisticated. This nail polish could jazz up sweatpants and a t-shirt, or even a “groutfit.” If you’re looking for a unique neutral nail polish for fall, check this one out.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Shoot The Moon

Sally Hansen Shoot the Moon
$4.69 at Target
Metallics are going to be a huge trend for fall, especially metallic colors that look almost multi-faceted. This Sally Hansen nail polish looks green or brown depending on what light you’re in, so it’s basically just stunning.
Also, it’s a Complete Salon Manicure formulation, so if you’re lazy about doing your nails like I am, you’ll be happy to know this polish requires no base coat or top coat. Just two coats and you’re done! I recommend touching up halfway through the week with a top coat just to make sure it doesn’t chip, although I don’t normally have problems with this kind of polish.

What do you think?

What are your favorite fall nail polishes? Have you tried any of these? Would you like to see more posts like this? Remember to tell us your thoughts by leaving a comment!

10 Beauty Secrets Teen Girls Should Know

Teen girls are learning all about taking care of themselves and enhancing their natural beauty. The following techniques are some essential secrets that a teen girl can use now and in the future as part of her beauty regimen. Take time to explore these secrets as they are likely to come in handy when you want to get pretty!
Beauty Secrets Every Teen Girl Should Know

1. Wash your face

Wash Your Face
It’s a good idea to get into the habit of washing your face every day and always removing your makeup. Never go to sleep with your makeup on, for instance, and remove it as soon as you come home in the evening in order to let your skin breathe. A gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin is a good idea. If your skin is oily, you may wish to use a product designed for your skin type.

2. Don’t share makeup

Don't Share Makeup
This can be a tough one for teens, but it is important advice. After all, how good will you look when you contract your best friend’s pink eye because you used her eye liner? Makeup contains bacteria that multiplies over time, so discard products once they expire as the built up bacteria can lead to problems like infections. Be sure to use only your products however tempting your friend’s bubble gum pink lip gloss appears.

3. Go natural

Go Natural
From makeup to deodorant, choose natural and safe products whenever you can. The fewer toxins you introduce to your body, the fewer your body must cope with. As toxins build up, you may notice more frequent breakouts and may even feel sluggish. Don’t allow toxins the chance to build up in your body. Instead, use products that contain natural ingredients whenever you can find them.
4. Love that water
Love that Water
Not only is it essential to keep you hydrated, it’s important to understand all the benefits that water offers. For instance, a hot bath and some Epsom salts is a great way to alleviate sore muscles after a big game. Such baths can also alleviate stress; try one the night before a test and see how it leaves your mind and skin feeling rejuvenated.

5. Dress to flatter your figure

Dress to Flatter Your Figure
Clothing is important to teens and is often reflective of their style. Whatever that style happens to be, choose clothes that flatter your figure. You don’t need to ‘mask’ areas or show more skin than may be appropriate, but if you dress in a manner that enhances your beauty with timeless appeal, you’ll be able to go anywhere looking like you have already mastered one of the cardinal beauty secrets.

6. Clean hair

Clean Hair
While you can actually over-clean your hair, you’ll want to make sure that you wash it a few times a week. Washing too much can strip your hair of its essential oils that help protect it. You’ll dry your hair out if you wash it every day. On the other hand, letting your hair to get greasy can lead to some serious itching and even cause breakouts on your forehead.

7. Take care of your nails

Take Care of Your Nails
You don’t have to visit the salon to have great looking nails. Learn to file your nails and keep them looking great by removing old polish when it begins to chip away and applying new polish. You can simply use a clear coat to add strength and shine to your nails. Dipping them in a lemon periodically will help strengthen them too!

8. Don’t dye your hair too much

Don't Dye Your Hair Too Much
While it can be fun to dye your hair often in dramatically different shades, it’s also a great way to wreck your hair. Not only will you be delivering bottle-loads of chemicals to your scalp, you’ll be stripping away your hair’s natural color and drying it out to the point of straw. While professionals carry some gentle product lines, it’s still a good idea to wait to dye your hair until you start getting gray. Since many teens are apt to ignore that good advice, they should at least keep dye jobs to a minimum or use safer products like hair chalk.

9. One or the other: eyes or lips

One or the Other Eyes or Lips
If you plan to dramatically play up your eyes with makeup, you should plan to go easy on your lips and refrain from making them compete with your eyes. Similarly, if you plan to achieve bold lips, be sure to go easy on the eye makeup. When you play up both of these features with heavy makeup, they can appear mask-like or clownish. You’ll still achieve a beautiful look by highlighting one or the other. If you want to wear makeup, simply wear a simple gloss or pale color on your lips.
10. Don’t overdo the makeup
Don't Overdo the Makeup
Teens probably hate hearing grown-ups telling them over and over again that a little makeup goes a long way. This is, indeed, the truth and it’s one that won’t change with age. When you wear too much makeup, people only notice that you’re a girl ‘wearing too much makeup.’ They aren’t likely to notice the beauty hiding underneath the cake of foundation, powder, and sludge of eye liner. You only need a little bit of makeup to highlight your features and this little bit goes a long way to enhancing your natural appearance.
Nowadays most teenage girls tend to wear a bright makeup and it’s actually a huge mistake. When I was a teen, bright eyeshadows and bold lipsticks were my best friends, but I didn’t notice that such a makeup made me look clownish. Avoid making the same mistakes I did by following the aforementioned tips.
